Sonic Youth – Daydream Nation

Released: 10/??/88  (Enigma)

Rating: 4.4/5.0

The master noisemakers themselves. Sonic Youth have had an almost unprecedented influence on indie rock throughout the 90’s and well into the 2000’s. This album is a divider, people love it or they hate it. Daydream Nation is an album that demands your full attention, from start (Teen Age Riot is one of the best songs ever written.) to finish (a triple movement catharsis and decline). It begs you to be patient, to really listen. The noise isn’t just noise, it is there to create a sonic (pun sort of not intended) atmosphere that is unique to this album and this album alone. Mission accomplished.
